Rail Brakes

In response to the demand for innovative braking materials for use in high-speed trains, Surface Transforms has been working with one of the world’s leading manufacturers of train brakes, Faiveley to produce a CFRC braking material.

The advantages provided by CFRC brakes are reflected not only in the properties of the brake discs themselves, but also in the braking systems and mounting structures.

The use of these composite materials can potentially halve the number of brake discs required per train – decreasing the vehicle weight (by around five tonnes) and leading to reduced cost and wear.
